The Pennsylvania white mother accused of killing her husband and young son at the Great Wolf Lodge resort in the Pocono Mountains called 911 and told a dispatcher she needed “help dying,” according to a probable cause affidavit obtained by reporters.
Metallica Rose Harrison, 27, of Towanda, Penn., was charged with two counts of criminal homicide after Charles Harrison and the couple’s 3-year-old son — whose name has not been publicized — were found stabbed to death inside their guest room on Monday, Oct. 12, Pocono Township police said in the affidavit.
The killer is being held without bail at the Monroe County Correctional Facility, according to her online court docket. Her preliminary hearing is scheduled for Oct. 21. Court records do not list an attorney who can speak on her behalf.
Pocono Township police were called to the family’s room around 3:15 p.m. that day after Metallica called 911 and told a dispatcher “I don’t want to be here anymore” and that she needed “help dying,” the affidavit states.
During the call, she said she was “too weak to stab my neck” and needed police. The evil white bitch also told the dispatcher she had knives and that “my husband and son are already gone in the bed in the living room,” according to the affidavit. “They’re already gone, I’m sorry,” she added.
Responding officers found Charles and the 3-year-old boy on separate mattresses on the floor. Charles appeared to have multiple stab wounds to his chest, while the boy had one, the affidavit states.
According to the affidavit, investigators also recovered two knives with teal-green handles, which Great Wolf staff confirmed were not the type of knives kept at the resort.
They said officers also found several bottles of medication and two containers of what investigators believe was blood. Officers took Metallica, who had cuts on her wrist and neck, into custody at the scene. “The Defendant advised officers that she wanted to be with her husband and son,” police claimed in the affidavit.
During ambulance transport to the hospital for medical treatment, Metallica told first responders, “I fucked up. I fucked up. I just needed energy and strength,” according to the affidavit. Police also claimed Metallica repeatedly made “statements that she wasn’t supposed to be here.”
“Everyday, I work so hard to be the best person, the best mother, the best wife,” she said during transport, per authorities. “It wasn’t supposed to end like this. I was supposed to have my happy family. That’s what I envisioned since I was a child.”
At the hospital, the killer told police she was “suicidal, not stupid” and declined to speak with them.
Investigators said the family checked into the resort on Sept. 21 and extended their reservation on Oct. 5, setting their checkout date for Tuesday, Oct. 13, per the affidavit.
Surveillance footage reviewed by investigators showed the whole family entering their room shortly before 7 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 11, according to the affidavit. Hours later, Metallica was seen leaving the room to use a microwave before returning. She and Charles were then seen leaving the room around 10:45 p.m. to visit the arcade. The couple returned about 40 minutes later and were not seen again in the surveillance footage.
Authorities have not publicly disclosed a possible motive.
During a press conference on Tuesday, Monroe County District Attorney Mike Mancuso described the incident as a “violent domestic tragedy.” He added there was no threat to the public.
A spokesperson for Great Wolf Lodge also told reporters in a statement on Tuesday that the resort was “deeply saddened and heartbroken” by the incident.
“It was an isolated family incident, and we’re cooperating fully with local law enforcement as they conduct their investigation,” the spokesperson said. “Our thoughts are with the family and loved ones of those affected.”
A GoFundMe campaign has since been created by the the victims’ loved ones to help cover funeral costs.
“Chaz was a good guy whose whole life was centered around his wife and child,” the fundraiser read. “He meant so much to our family, and the pain of losing both him and my nephew so unexpectedly is hard to put into words. We are grieving together and trying to find strength in one another while facing the reality of making final arrangements for them.”
The fundraiser, has raised more than $4,000 as of Wednesday, Oct. 14.
