A former officer with the Fayetteville Police Department accused of rape has died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to the Greenland Police Department.
GPD said in a news release that around 5 a.m. on July 31, the Washington County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch Center received a call from a man who reported that he was at 707 S. Main Avenue in Greenland and planned to take his own life.
Before disconnecting the call, the man gave dispatchers a description of the vehicle he was driving.
Officers with GPD and the West Fork Police Department responded to the location and arrived a few minutes after the call.
Once they arrived at the scene and found a deceased white male lying in front of the vehicle, according to the release.
GPD said that preliminary findings indicated the individual died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The white male was identified as Jeremy Grammer, 50, of Fayetteville.
Grammer was arrested on July 28 by the Fayetteville Police Department for one count of rape of a minor under the age of 14. He had been released on a $150,000 bond later that day and was scheduled to appear in court on Aug. 26.
