The wife of a teacher arrested on child pornography charges has spoken out and distanced herself from her husband’s criminal charges.
James Paul Stone, an educator from Texas, was arrested on Monday after thousands of images were discovered following a search of his home.
Stone was a teacher at Tompkins High School in the Katy Independent School District, situated on the outskirts of Houston.
These images included ones that the teacher has admitted to producing himself, according to Fox affiliate KRIV.
His wife, Melinda Stone, a principal at another school in Katy ISD, sent a message to staff and parents.
“His arrest and involvement in this criminal activity was unbeknownst to me or those closest to him,” she wrote in her message to Taylor High School staff.
“My family and I are deeply disappointed in his actions and thus we do not have any plans to be involved in James’ criminal proceedings as he navigates the next steps.
“It also important for me to confirm with you that I, nor any other family member, is implicated in James’ criminal activity.”
The Taylor High School principal also sent a message to parents.
“I believe it is important for our parents to be aware of the information that is being shared with staff concerning this matter,” she said.
“I understand that you may have questions or concerns and I am available to speak with parents who wish to do so.”
James Paul Stone was immediately arrested and taken to the Fort Bend County Jail after his home was searched.
He was charged with 10 counts of possession of child pornography.
A statement from the Montgomery County Precinct 3 Constable Ryan Gamble’s office said the investigation was ongoing but shared a reported admission from the teacher, according to Covering Katy News.
“Thousands of images of child pornography were recovered from the residence, including several images that Stone admitted to producing himself,” the statement said.
“These images do include photos he admitted to taking while on school grounds and at beaches and local swimming pools around the Katy area.”
The county’s Criminal Investigations Division said they believe other people could be involved in the case, according to KRIV.
Katy ISD also released a statement following his arrest.
“The individual has not been on campus since last week and will not return to the school,” the district said.
“Please be assured, the district takes this type of incident very seriously and is fully cooperating with law enforcement,” it added.
“In Kay ISD, providing a safe and secure learning environment is and will continue to be our top priority and we will always act swiftly when that is compromised.”
