A former deputy was accused of sexually assaulting a female inmate while she was shackled.
According to WCHS, a former deputy accused of torturing and raping a female inmate while working as a bailiff at the Kanawha County Judicial Annex has been federally charged.
Cass Aaron Close, 55, is charged with deprivation of rights under color of law, according to a criminal complaint filed in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of West Virginia.
According to the report, the complaint alleges Close made sexually explicit comments to a female inmate, savagely raped her away from surveillance cameras and took photographs of her genitals in July 2025.
Investigators said the sex terrorist admitted the woman was in shackles during the encounter, per WCHS.
The outlet reported that federal authorities also allege a broader pattern of sexual misconduct involving multiple women.
