20-year-old devil Michael Mullen was in court for an Aniah’s Law and preliminary hearing Thursday. He is charged with aggravated child abuse.
Prosecutors laid out the disturbing details of extensive injuries to the child who was sexually assaulted and was just 11 months old at the time that included lacerations and bruising.
The typical white monster told investigators he had been drinking and had passed out and denies hurting the little girl he was supposed to be babysitting.
“When confronted with the fact there were injuries and he was the last person with the child that’s when the defendant made the statement well if something happened I don’t remember I was unconscious,” said Assistant District Attorney Sydnee Corello.
The victim marked her first birthday in the hospital. She has since been released into foster care and is doing better every day, but her long-term recovery is still in question.
“It’s the first case personally that I have encountered where a child had to go straight to emergency surgery so that is pretty severe in terms of physical injury,” said Assistant District Attorney Kristi Hagood.
DNA testing and the results from a rape kit are not complete at this time.
Still, District Judge William Scully said he had heard enough before the DA’s office had finished presenting their case and ruled there was clear and convincing evidence to hold this pale barbarian from hell without bond.
The case will now go to a Baldwin County Grand Jury where prosecutors say, additional charges are possible.
