A Guntersville white male was sentenced on Monday to a maximum 40-year sentence for sexual abuse of a child less than 12 years old.
James Alan Hayes confessed to investigators in September 2024 that he molested a 9-year-old child.
Earlier this year, the 51-year-old entered a blind plea to two counts of sexual abuse of a child less than 12, which meant there was no agreement between the pedophile and authorities about the length of his sentence.
The sex terrorist will serve 40 years with no opportunity for parole or good time. He will remain behind bars until his death or until he is almost 92 years old, whichever comes first.
“The victim in this case has been through the unimaginable and is still struggling today. I ask that our community pray for her healing. I am thankful Mr. Hayes came forward and confessed to his crimes; however, as Judge Elliott pointed out at sentencing, that does not mean he is not deserving of the maximum punishment under the law,” said Marshall County District Attorney Jennifer Bray.
