Molly Duncan, a former nanny from Beachwood, will officially spend the rest of her life in prison.
According to prosecutors, Duncan sexually abused two victims under the age of 2 — one in Geauga County and one in Portage County — between November 2023 and July 2024. She recorded the assaults on her cellphone, and then shared the images with other users on social media.
“I’m going to ask you one question: What in the hell happened in your life that you would think this was all right?” asked Judge Laurie Pittman Friday in Portage County Common Pleas Court.
Earlier this week, a federal judge sentenced Duncan to 70 years in prison. Friday’s sentencing was for the state case involving the Portage County child, which saw the diabolical child rapist plead guilty to four counts of first-degree rape as well as several other charges.
For her crimes, Pittman handed the wretched bitch four consecutive life sentences without the possibility of parole, formally placing her behind bars until the day she dies.
“This was one of the most sadistic defendants I’ve ever had, and I’ve been prosecuting now for almost 35 years,” Portage County Prosecutor Connie Lewandowski told reporters. She added that the abuse was so severe that the toddler required surgery and spent days in the hospital.
The child’s mother gave 3News permission to use her victim impact statement.
“There is evil in this world, your honor, and its name is Molly Duncan,” the mother said. “This has not only impacted my daughter, but our entire family. We live with heightened vigilance. Every day is now measured by how well she is coping.”
During her statement, Duncan apologized, but also attributed her actions, in part, to her mental health and her own history of abuse.
“I’ve had thousands of opportunities to have committed these crimes, and this was never a thought that entered my mind until a particular person entered my life,” Duncan, 26, said.
Later, Duncan told Pittman she had cared for other children after the abuse and “never reoffended.” Pittman challenged that claim.
“How do we know that the family ever caught it?” the judge asked. “This family caught it.” When Duncan responded, “I can swear on a Bible for you on the word of God,” Pittman replied, “I wouldn’t trust that.”
In addition to the life sentences, Duncan received additional prison terms for the remaining counts, including attempted rape, gross sexual imposition, and child endangering. Those sentences will run concurrently.
Pittman said consecutive life terms were necessary to protect the public. She also found the harm caused to the victim was “so great or unusual” that no single prison term would adequately reflect the seriousness of the crimes.
“She’s going to suffer the rest of her life with a scar,” Pittman said of the victim. “She’s going to have emotional issues, physical issues, psychological issues because of what you did to her.”
Duncan also faces separate state charges in Geauga County.
